The Red Door shop in Brodick Isle of Arran opened for business on friday 10 November 2006.

What is behind the Red Door? A whole treasure trove of gifts, from pens to unicycles, necklaces to Noah's Ark.

The Red Door is a new gift shop run by sisters Ruth Parker and Stacey Smith at Kames Cottage, Brodick.

The shop opened its shiny new red door on Friday 10 November with a party and has been doing brisk business ever since.

Although they have lived on the mainland, Ruth and Stacey are no strangers to the Island. They grew up in the orginal Auchrannie Hotel, which was run by their parents, Chris and Cath Smith until 1987.

Asked what led them to open the shop Ruth and Stacey said they were keen to find a business they could manage between them while they continue to have some commitments on the mainland.

Stacey, who was born on the Island, said "We know Arran already has a lot of lovely gift shops but we wanted to put together something a bit different - have gifts for all ages and interests and have a shop that locals would depend on as well as visitors.

"Friends have pitched in to help us set up in time for Christmas and that has been a huge help. Now we look forward to welcoming everyone to our shop and helping them choose the perfect present."
